My name is Christy Simon, and this is my fifteenth year teaching. I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University. I am currently the Gifted and Talented teacher at my school and absolutely LOVE my job!
Twelve years ago, I married my wonderful husband, Chris, and just recently moved to Las Vegas. I have one son named Eric who is five years old, and a silly dog named Wilbur. When I am not hard at work teaching, I enjoy running, traveling, cooking, reading, hiking, playing racquetball, and spending time with my friends and family.
I love project based learning. The process students go through as they engage in the unit is so rewarding. It is an excellent way to differentiate based on readiness and interests for all learners. This way their individual talents can be nurtured and any gaps in their learning can be addressed. In addition, students feel a true sense of ownership in the project and are more vested. I also love incorporating cooperative learning activities where students have to work together to achieve a common goal and interactive hands on games. Any time students have fun, they are more likely to stay engaged and learn the material that needs to be mastered.
